Frankfurt started at the beginning of the Middle Ages as a free trade emporium, becoming the marketplace of Germany. However, trade didn't require many people to succeed, and the city rented out its free space to the Holy Roman Emperor, who chose the location as the Imperial Election and Coronation Venues. Its role as the center of Germany, made it the natural capital and subsequent revolutionary center.
